Sonya Skok - Play Therapist
Sonya is a qualified Play Therapist and a registered Early Childhood and Primary teacher. She has over 20 years' experience working with children across kindergarten, primary and special education settings.
Play Therapy is a specialised form of therapy for children 2-12 years of age, that is evidence-based, trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate. Sonya uses a non-directive, Child-centred Play Therapy (CCPT) approach which follows the child's lead. Her sessions aim to make the child feel emotionally safe and understood.
Many children do not yet have the language to fully express complex emotions or experiences. Through Play Therapy children communicate what they are feeling and work through challenges at their own pace.
Play Therapy aims to support children experiencing: anxiety, emotional regulation, behavioural or social challenges, family separation, change or conflict, grief or loss, trauma including illness or hospitalisation.
Sonya also provides Tele-Play Therapy (Telehealth) for children who are unable to attend in person.
